The LCRA–SAWS Water Project (LSWP) was intended to address long-term water needs in both the Colorado River basin and the San Antonio area. SAWS and LCRA signed the Definitive Agreement for the LSWP on February 27, 2002. Following a detailed public process, the Study Period Plan was approved in February 2004 and is being executed. If the project meets the requirements defined in the Definitive Agreement, generates sufficient yield at an acceptable cost, receives the appropriate permits and is approved by SAWS, an implementation plan will be developed by March 2010 and construction of the project can begin.
